The MSc Product Design team hosted a workshop on the Sunday of Mozilla Festival. The workshop was titled; Model Making a Physical Apps and aimed to comunicate the “physical app” way of thinking to the audience. After showing the attendees round The Physical App Store we started an ideas jam, initiated by asking the room if any of them were involved in the development of apps. We got three responses so we split the room into 3 groups and designed physical manifestations of these apps.
By the end of the session we had numerous ideas and 3 paper prototypes; a coin collecting robot with an internet presence, a low cost mixer with sound editing abilities and ‘Lost a Friend’ – a friend making and locating wristband. As the group was mainly coders, all the ideas were deemed easily achievable.
The general feeling at the end of the session was very positive, details and business cards were swapped and one member of the group left the room saying “I’ve got some great ideas now, all I need to do is work out how they’ll make me money.”
